
Panthers Pounce Bluejays, 81-71, in Women's Basketball

The Bluejays never led in the game, as the Panthers (3-4) used a fast tempo to jump out to a 12-4 lead in the opening four minutes. CU scored the next six points to pull within two, before falling behind by 10, down 22-12 with 8:49 to play in the first half. The Bluejays responded with a 10-0 run capped by Megan Neuvirth's lay-up with 5:45 to play. But the Panthers regained momentum and finished the half with a 21-5 clip to take a 43-27 lead into the break.
After halftime, Creighton could never get within 10 of EIU, despite the Panthers finishing the game with 26 turnovers. The Bluejays struggled to get anything going on offense, shooting just 32.4 percent in the game, while the Panthers shot 52.8 percent from the field in the 10-point win. Creighton continued its season-long struggle from three-point range, ending the game 6-for-25 from beyond the arc for 24 percent.
Schuett led a strong effort from Bluejay newcomers, finishing with a career-best 16 points on 4-of-10 shooting from the field, including 2-of-4 three-pointers and 5-of-6 at the free-throw line. The Millard West graduate had a career-high six rebounds, four on the offensive glass, while she swiped a career-best four steals and added two assists and a blocked shot.
Redshirt freshman Megan Neuvirth added her second career double digit scoring effort, finishing with 10 points. She also had six rebounds, four offensive, grabbed three steals and had a blocked shot. Freshman Katie Frank, who entered the game with 22 total minutes played through the first six games, played a season-high 14 minutes and contributed career-bests with eight points and four rebounds. Walk-on freshman Jess Lammers also played a season-high nine minutes and scored her first career points, making a free-throw and adding a three-pointer.
Sophomore Chevelle Herring joined Schuett and Neuvirth in double figures, scoring 10 points to follow up her career-high 18 point effort against
EIU sophomore forward Rachel Galligan led all players with 27 points and nine rebounds.
