
Men's Basketball Tops UNC, 85-66

OMAHA, Neb. -- Booker Woodfox had 16 points and Kaleb Korver a career-high 14 points as Creighton defeated Northern Colorado, 85-66, in the first game of the Findlay Toyota Las Vegas Classic.
Creighton is now 7-2 while UNC dropped to 2-5.
The Bluejays used a 12-0 run to open a 26-15 lead midway through the first half and would take its larget lead of the half at 30-17. UNC responded with a 15-3 run to draw back within one point at 33-32 at the 5:39 mark. Creighton led 41-37 at the break, paced by 11 pionts in 14 minutes from Booker Woodfox, while the Bears were led by 11 points from Will Figures.
Northern Colorado hit back-to-back three-pointers early in the second half to tie the score at 43, the game's first tie since 2-2.
CU would use a 13-2 run to go ahead 61-49 at the 12:13 mark, keyed by a pair of baskets from Kenton Walker, a thunderous dunk from P'Allen Stinnett in transition and a trey and lay-up by Cavel Witter.
Creighton would close the game on a 16-5 run, including consecutive three-pointers from both Witter and later Korver, in the final four minutes.
Woodfox had 16 points on 6-of-11 shooting while continuing his hot streak. Korver hit 4-of-6 shots, all from long-range, to finish with a career-high 14 points in a career-best 25 minutes. Also in double-figures was Witter, who scored all 13 of his points in the final 16 minutes. Creighton shot 10-of-21 from three-point range and a season-best 52.7 percent from the floor.
UNC was led by 17 points from Will Figures, while Jabril Banks had 14 points and eight rebounds. Inside, Mike Proctor had a game-high 12 rebounds to lead a Bears attack that outrebounded the hosts, 38-25.
Creighton stays home to host Southern on Monday in another 7:05 pm tip at Qwest Center Omaha.
