This Weekend's Opponents
Creighton will take on its chief MVC nemesis on Saturday when the Jays host the Missouri State Bears as part of a women's and men's soccer doubleheader at Morrison Stadium on Saturday.
Bear Series
The Jays are 3-5-5 against the Bears all-time, have not defeated the Bears since 2005 and are 0-1-4 in their last five matches. The Jays will be seeking for a measure of revenge, as they were knocked out of last year's MVC Tournament in a 0-0, penalty kick loss (4-2) to MSU.
Recent Results
Creighton bounced back from its non-conference loss to Arizona State with a 1-0 conference win against Indiana State on Friday. Creighton headed to Northern Colorado on Sunday, but fell to the Bears by a 2-1 count.

Opener Omen
Winning the conference opener has been a sign of good things for MVC teams over the years, as the Bluejays did just that on Friday. In 13 years prior, only two Valley conference tournament champions have lost their first conference match of the year. The overall record of tournament champions is 8-2-3, with the only two teams to go on to win the conference tournament after losing their opener being the 2005 Creighton squad and the 1996 Evansville team.
On the Right Track
The Bluejays moved to 10-2-1 in home conference openers with their 1-0 over the Sycamores. The Jays are 8-3-2 in conference openers, home or road.
Leadership Role
Brittney Neumann posted an assist on Sunday, ending a four-match pointless stretch. Neumann moved into the team and league point league with 13 (5g/3a).
No Need for Proactiv
With the win against Indiana State on Friday, the Jays moved to a blemish-free 12-0-0 all-time against the Sycamores. The Jays are also loss and tie-free against two other teams they have played five or more matches against. Those squads are Arkansas-Little Rock (7-0-0) and South Dakota State (6-0-0). In addition, the Sycamores are one of three teams the Jays have 10 or more wins against, with the other two being Northern Iowa (10-1-1) and Western Illinois (10-0-1)
Connolly Comes Through
Kelly Connolly broke a scoreless tie with Indiana State in the 67th minute on Friday. It was the second goal of the season and career for Connolly, whose two goals this season have both been match-winners for the Bluejays.
Bruch-ing the Ice
Jordan Bruch posted her first goal of the season in Creighton's 2-1 loss at Northern Colorado. It was the first goal for Bruch since her freshman season; a stretch that spanned 52 matches.
Holding Steady
Despite the loss on Sunday, Creighton remained at ninth in the NSCAA Great Lakes Regional poll. Purdue is at the top of the poll with a 6-2-2 mark.
Fill in the Blank
Alicia Montgomery continued her mastery between the pipes in Friday's win over Indiana State. Her two saves gave her a league-best sixth shutout of the year and lowered her GAA to 0.41. With one more shutout she will move into a tie for fourth on Creighton's single season shutout list. The CU record is 10 set by Denise Zaver.
In and Out
The Bluejays are back in Valley conference play on Saturday after stepping out to play Northern Colorado on Sunday. Creighton has rebounded well from non-conference losses, as they are 6-2-1 in conference matches immediately following a non-conference loss.
Go to Your Corner!
Creighton's offense has generated many a solid scoring opportunity this season. That includes 70 corner kicks, which leads the league and is 18 more than Missouri State and Northern Iowa. Creighton has scored two goals directly off corners this season.
Not Exactly These Bears' Cave
Missouri State is the lone MVC conference opponent Creighton does not have a winning record against. The Jays have had a good amount of success against the Bears in Omaha, however, as the Jays have a 2-1-4 record in matches played in the city.
Doubling Down
The Bluejays will be 2-0-0 in Valley play if they can beat Missouri State on Saturday. The Jays have started 2-0-0 in the conference three times, in 1998, 2000 and 2002. The Jays have stared 0-2-0 just once (1997), and have put up a 1-1-0 mark six times.
Tie up Those Bears!
Speaking of two game starts, the Jays have posted just two ties within their first two MVC matches since 1998, both of which were 0-0 ties with Missouri State at Morrison Stadium (2004 & 2007).
More on Montgomery
With her shutout last Friday, Alicia Montgomery continued to stake her claim as one of the best keepers in the country. The sophomore currently ranks 10th in the country in goals against average with a 0.41 mark and 11th in save percentage with her .900 showing. Montgomery has played in 10 matches this season and is now eligible for Creighton's career list with 15 matches played. She is currently Creighton's career leader in GAA (0.42) and save percentage (.906).
Storming the Gates
Creighton saw its second largest home crowd flood Morrison Stadium against Arizona State on Sept. 18 with 1,277 Creighton faithful filling the seats. The crowd of 714 for the Indiana State match on Sept. 25 gave the Jays their third-best, two-match total with 1,991 fans. The two pairs ahead of that both came in 2006, with matches against Kansas and Illinois State bringing in 2,255, and two tussles with
and Iowa State posting a combined crowd of 2,028.
On Tap
Creighton's tussle with Missouri State on Saturday will be the only match of the week for the Jays. Creighton will be on the road for their next two contests, both Valley matches. CU will visit Illinois State on Oct. 11 followed by a trip to Drake on Oct. 15.
