
Men's Tennis Wins Battle of Omaha, Tops Nebraska-Omaha, 7-0

The Jays opened up doubles play with three wins, the closest match being Billy Paluch and J.T. Christian's 9-7 victory over Drew Mercier and Chase Petersen at No. 1 doubles. Kyle Obermeier and Gabe Nagy cruised past Jon McQuistan and Peter Greteman at No. 2, 8-3, and Sean Mathison and James McAvoy handed Matt Nohl and John Diamantis an 8-2 setback at No. 3.
Singles were just as sharp for CU, as the Mavericks (1-1) could not muster a set. Christian highlighted singles play, blanking Petersen, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2. Mathison also had a near-flawless performance at No. 6, routing Mike Hupf, 6-1, 6-0.
McAvoy earned his fourth victory in his last five matches with a 6-1, 6-1 trumping of Andrew Lescelius at No. 5. Singles play wrapped with three more Jay wins, as Paluch topped Mercier at No. 1, 6-3, 6-4, Nagy dropped McQuistan, 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 and Obermeier got past Greteman at No. 4, 6-1, 6-3.
The Jays (1-2) will have a lengthy, 11-day layoff before hitting the courts on Feb. 27 against Western Illinois. First serve from the Hanscom Tennis Center is slated for 6:00 p.m.
