
Men's Tennis Opens Weekend With 7-0 Loss at Illinois State

NORMAL, Ill. - The Creighton Men's Tennis team started its final regular season road swing in Normal, Ill. on Saturday. Illinois State controlled the match, however, as the Redbirds dispatched of the Bluejays, 7-0, Saturday afternoon at the Gregory Street Tennis Courts.
The Redbirds (13-7, 5-0 MVC) recorded their fifth straight win, as they went 3-0 on the doubles end and won in straight sets in all six singles matches over the Bluejays (10-5, 1-3 MVC).
Skip Span and Filip Miljevic had the toughest outing in doubles, as they topped Sean Mathison and Connor Macey 8-6 at No. 3 doubles. Billy Paluch and J.T. Christian also hung tough at No. 1, but Alexander Pelaez and Michael Hobson prevailed with an 8-5 victory. Matej Zlatkovic and Timon Reichelt wrapped up the doubles point with an 8-2 win over Gabe Nagy and Kyle Obermeier at No. 2.
Four Redbirds pulled double duty, capturing wins in singles as well. Pelaez topped Christian at No. 1, 7-5, 6-2 and Reichelt swept Paluch 6-2, 6-3 at No 2. Miljevic followed by blanking Nagy 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 and Zlatkovic rounded out the foursome with 6-3, 6-2 triumph over Obermeier.
Xavier Riart-Ferrer and Micah Lemoine closed the Illinois State 'W' at No. 5 and 6, as Riart-Ferrer ran past James McAvoy, 6-3, 6-1 and LeMoine topped Lube, 6-1, 6-0.
Creighton will wrap up its regular season Sunday in Peoria, Ill. against Bradley. Match time is slated for 10 a.m.
