
Creighton Men's Tennis Shuts Out Northern Colorado 7-0

OMAHA, Neb. - In their third straight match at home, the Creighton men's tennis team defeated Northern Colorado 7-0 on Friday night at Hanscom Indoor Tennis Center. Creighton improved its record to 4-2, 0-1, while Northern Colorado fell to 1-5, 0-2 on the season.
The Jays started off winning the doubles point, also for the third straight match. Finishing first was Gabe Nagy and Ryan Norman in the No. 3 doubles. The duo improved to 3-3 on the season, defeating Alexander Moncada and Andre Lepine 8-2. J.T. Christian and Billy Paluch won their third straight No. 1 doubles match, defeating Travis Day and Ryan Lane 8-3. The win gave the Jays the doubles point. To finish out doubles play, Kyle Obermeier and Sean Mathison defeated Jeff Carlson and Michael Moya 8-7, winning the eighth with a 7-4 tiebreak.
Creighton dominated the singles play to complete the day. Norman improved the Creighton lead to 2-0 when he defeated Andre Lepine 6-1, 6-4 in the No. 6 singles. Finishing a close second, defeating Ryan Lane in straight sets, Paluch won 6-0, 6-1. It was both Norman and Paluch's third win on the season.
Bryan Lube and Nagy switched spots for the match, with Lube playing No. 5 singles for the first time this season and Nagy at the No. 4 spot. Both had a 6-1, 6-2 match final, just reversed the order. Lube defeated Travis Day in the No. 5 singles 6-1, 6-2, while Nagy beat Moya 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 4 singles spot. Lube's win gave the Jays their fourth point of the day, giving Creighton the automatic win, up 4-0.
The No. 2 and No. 3 singles were much closer than any other spot. In the No. 3 singles, Obermeier won set one 6-2, but dropped set two to Jeff Carlson 6-4. Obermeier then won the first-to-ten, 10-7, to earn the win at the No. 3 spot. In the No. 2 singles, Christian defeated Alexander Moncada 6-1 in the first set, then fell 7-6 in the second. In the first-to-ten, Christian won in an extended 12-10 finish.
"We won 7-0 today but it was a pretty close match," said head coach Tom Lilly. "The two and three singles were really close and it was nice for us to earn this win today."
