
Women's Soccer Evens Record with 4-1 Win Over Northern Colorado

OMAHA, Neb. - Led by goals from four different players, the Creighton women's soccer team upended Northern Colorado 4-1 on Sunday, Sept. 1.
The win evened Creighton's record at 2-2-0 on the year, while Northern Colorado fell to 1-3-0.

An early goal from sophomore Alyssa Jara gave the Jays a 1-0 lead in the ninth minute. The play was set up by fellow sophomore Alissa Kohmetscher dribbling past a defender from the right. Kohmetscher's centering pass bounced off a Northern Colorado leg and directly to Jara, who drove the goal into the upper right corner from 12 yards away at 8:58.
Creighton created a flurry of shots down the stretch of the opening frame, but were unable to capitalize as the Bluejays took a 1-0 lead into the half.
As they had in the first half, the Jays took advantage of their first opportunity in the second when freshman Paige Jarsombeck drove in a corner entry pass from sophomore Jill Richgels to extend the lead to 2-0. It was Jarsombeck's fourth goal of the season, giving her at least one in each of the Jays' last three contests.
Northern Colorado narrowed Creighton's edge back to one goal at 2-1 with a goal in the in the 57th minute on an unassisted goal from Rebecca Lancia.
Moments later the Jays regained their two goal advantage when senior Kelsey O'Donnell converted a penalty kick at 67:17. The play was created as Northern Colorado was called for a hand ball on a pass in the box by sophomore Kyla Booker.
Creighton salted the match away with a goal in the 82nd minute as senior Lauren Cingoranelli sent a pinpoint pass to freshman Darby Hugunin in the middle of the box. Hugunin headed the ball into the back of the next from seven yards away at 81:55.
The Jays outshot Northern Colorado 19-11 in the match and held the Bears without a corner (5-0).
Freshman Danielle Rice earned the win in goal, collecting four saves, while Northern Colorado's Natalie D'Adamio made nine saves in the loss.
The Bluejays return to the pitch on Sunday, Sept. 8 as Creighton hosts Idaho at 1 p.m. in Morrison Stadium.
