Top-Ranked Bluejays Blank Butler To Improve To 13-0-0 On The Season

INDIANAPOLIS -- Pushing its overall record to 13-0-0, the Creighton men's soccer team secured its ninth shutout of the season on Wednesday en route to earning a 1-0, road victory over BIG EAST opponent Butler. With the win, the Bluejays improved to 4-0-0 in BIG EAST play.
Creighton outshout the Bulldogs (6-3-3, 2-2-0 BIG EAST) by a 10-1 margin in the first half, but could not find the back of the net.
The ice broke for the Bluejays in the 69th minute when senior Timo Pitter collected a pass from fellow Germany native, Fabian Herbers, and fired a shot into the upper-left corner past Butler goalkeeper Eric Dick. It was the fourth time this season, and second time in the past two matches, that the duo had connected on a game-winning goal.
Pitter's eventual game-winner was his seventh goal of the season and 30th of his career, moving him past former All-American and current Creighton women's soccer head coach, Ross Paule, on the program's all-time lists for career goals and points. With marks of 30 goals and 19 assists, Pitter ranks seventh in Creighton history for career goals and ninth for career points (79).
Meanwhile, Herbers tallied his seventh assist of the season on the play. The BIG EAST's leading point-scorer, Herbers (10g, 7a) has recorded a point in 12 of Creighton's 13 matches this fall.
Wednesday marked just the second time this season a team managed to shut out Butler, which held a 6-0-2 record and No. 21 NSCAA ranking entering last week. Other than Creighton, only 10th-ranked and BIG EAST co-leader, Georgetown, has accomplished the feat.
The Bluejays held Butler to just one shot on goal on Wednesday.
Creighton's nine shutouts are tied for the second most in the nation, as are the Bluejays 29 offensive goals this season.
The Bluejays will look to remain the nation's lone unbeaten and untied team when they visit Milwaukee, Wisc., on Saturday, Oct. 17 to take on BIG EAST opponent Marquette.
