Scouting the Hoyas (12-12, 0-0 BIG EAST)
Picked to finish the season at the bottom of the BIG EAST, the Hoyas have made some noise during their non-conference schedule. Georgetown delivered a 1-0 road win over #12 Virginia on March 24. Those same Cavaliers were just an eyelash away from claiming the 2014 national championship last season.
The win over Virginia is certainly the highlight of the early season for Georgetown, but after opening the year 1-7 the Hoyas have won 11 of 16 games. Last weekend Georgetown took the series opening from Lipscomb, but dropped the final two games in Tennessee to lose the series. Georgetown responded with a 16-9 thrashing of George Mason on Tuesday.
The Hoyas have a team batting average of .279, with the heart of the order providing the bulk of the damage. The 3-4 combination of Nick Collins and A.C. Carter have 35 RBI and are hitting .376 and .279 respectively. The duo also account for six of the Hoyas' nine home runs this season, led by four from Collins.
Georgetown has struggled on the bump, posting a team ERA of 4.02. The big concern has been walks, issuing 92 free passes in 208 innings. One arm that Georgetown can count on has been its closer, David Ellingson. With four saves and a 0.71 ERA in 12.2 innings, Ellingson has allowed just two runs (one earned) in 13 appearances. The one area of concern for Ellingson may be his nine walks.
Scouting the Bluejays (2015: 15-8, 0-0 BIG EAST)
Creighton also comes into the weekend following a 5-1 loss at #18 Nebraska. The loss ended Creighton's seven-game win streak, but the Bluejays have won ten of their past 12 games.
The disparity between Creighton's stats in wins versus losses is eye opening. In the Bluejays' 15 wins the team is hitting .303, while in the losses Creighton is at .178.
Junior Reagan Fowler leads the Bluejays with a .369 average (.450 over the last 12), but four other Bluejays (Harrison Crawford, Brett Murray, Daniel Woodrow and Ryan Fitzgerald) have pushed their season mark near .300.
On the mound the Bluejays have a similar split in wins versus losses, posting a 5.73 ERA in the losses and a 2.23 ERA in victories.
On the season Creighton has a 3.40 ERA, but have allowed just over three runs per game during the last 12.
Quick Like a Bunny: Fast Start a Key to Conference Championship
Under Ed Servais Creighton has won three regular season titles, 2005, 2011 & 2014. In each of those years the Bluejays opened conference play with a bang, taking five of their first six games.
Last season Creighton swept Georgetown to open BIG EAST play, then took two of three at Villanova. In 2005 and 2011 the Bluejays opened MVC play with road series victories over Illinois State.

Regions Collide
