Creighton Wins Three BIG EAST Team Academic Excellence Awards

Creighton's men's golf, women's basketball and women's cross country teams are honored
NEW YORK – Three Creighton teams are among the 22 that have been recognized by the BIG EAST Conference with 2017-18 Team Academic Excellence Awards for having the highest collective grade-point averages in each conference sport.
Creighton had its men's golf, women's basketball and women's cross country teams earn the honors. The women's cross country program owns a collective 3.71 GPA, the women's basketball team has a 3.63 GPA and the men's golf team owns a 3.57 GPA.
Five different schools had at least one team honored, with Georgetown leading the way with five certificates. DePaul had four teams recognized, followed by Creighton and St. John's with three. Butler had a pair of teams earn certificates, while Marquette, Seton Hall, Villanova, Temple and Vanderbilt rounded out the award winners with one nod apiece.
Creighton has now had six teams honored a total of 13 times by the BIG EAST since joining the league five years ago. The women's cross country (2014, 2016, 2018) and women's golf (2014, 2015, 2016) have been recognized three times, the women's basketball (2016, 2018), men's tennis (2016, 2017) and men's cross country (2015, 2016) programs were honored twice each, and this is the first time the men's golf team has been lauded.
The winners were chosen based on the 2017-18 grade-point average of each student-athlete who appeared on an institution's roster as of the last contest of the championship segment in each conference-sponsored sport.
