Women's Golf Places 11th at UTRGV Invitational

McALLEN, Texas -- Sydney Gillespie tied for 32nd place to lead the Creighton women's golf team to an 11th place finish at the UTRGV Invitational in McAllen, Texas, on Tuesday.

Gillespie sandwiched rounds of 78 around an 82 for a 238 aggregate. It's the second time in her last three meets that she's finished tied for 32nd place.

Freshman Katie Allen had rounds of 82 and 79 on Monday before closing with an 80 to finish tied for 41st place, and sophomore Amelia Lee compiled circuits of 80, 85 and 80 to place 50th.

Margaret Hickey scored 82, 83 and 84 for a 249 total, tying for 58th place along with teammate Caroline Lake (83-80-86).

Sam Houston State had five golfers finish in the top-20 and won the meet by eight shots over runner-up Texas State with an 891 total. Texas State's Anne-Charlotte Mora took home medalist honors with a four-shot victory over SHSU's Hanna Alberto, finishing with an even-par 216 total.

The meet was held at McAllen Country Club in McAllen, Texas, on a par 72 course that measured 6,042 yards. It featured 15 teams and 79 competitors.

Creighton returns to the course on March 23-24 in Sedona, Ariz., at the Red Rocks Invitational.
