Creighton freshmen Katherine Lemke and Eleanor Hudepohl finish 1-2
OMAHA, Neb. -- Freshmen Katherine Lemke and Eleanor Hudepohl claimed the top two spots as the Creighton women's golf team earned the Creighton Classic title on Tuesday at Oak Hills Country Club.
Lemke fired rounds of 74, 76 and 74 for a 224 total, one shot better than Hudepohl's loops of 75, 76 and 74 to top the field of 28 golfers.
Lemke picked up her first collegiate title in just her third career start, and has now opened her Bluejay career with three consecutive top-10 finishes. The Geneva, Ill., product has shot 76 or lower in all nine rounds this fall.
Hudepohl, meanwhile, has now finished as a runner-up in back-to-back events after also having done so at the Stampede At The Creek last week. She's fired a 76 or better in 8-of-9 rounds this season.
Junior Katie Allen tied for fourth place following circuits of 79, 77 and 73 for a 229 total that was five shots behind Lemke. Allen has now placed eighth or better in each of her past four tournaments dating to the spring season and has five career rounds of par or lower. It was also the third top-five finish of Allen's career, and first since the 2019 Creighton Classic.
Gabby Tremblay contributed to the Bluejay lineup with a 73 on Tuesday after starting the tournament on Monday with scores of 77 and 83. Her 233 aggregate tied her for seventh place. Tremblay's 73 matched her collegiate low and marked her first round as a Bluejay of par or lower.
Rounding out the Bluejay lineup was sophomore Katie Berrian, who placed 14th. She improved upon her first round 86 with successive scores of 81 and 77. It's the third straight tournament this fall that Berrian's best round has been in the final round.
Competing as an individual and not factoring into the Creighton team score were sophomore Claire Orcutt and junior Katie Wilson. Orcutt finished in 15th place with a 247 score after rounds of 85, 81 and 81. Wilson followed consecutive 87s on Monday with an 89 to tie for 23rd overall.
The host Bluejays won their second consecutive Creighton Classic with a 21 shot victory over runner-ups Nebraska-Omaha and Iowa Western. Division I newcomer St. Thomas rounded out the field 103 shots behind the Bluejays. Creighton had rounds of 305, 310 and 294. The tournament title was the program's first since the last rendition of the Creighton Classic was played in October of 2019.
The Oak Hills layout measured 5,952 yards and played to a par 73.
The Bluejays will finish their fall season at the Ozarks National Invitational in Hollister, Mo., on Oct. 18-20.
