Cross Country Teams Race Final Tune-Up Before BIG EAST Championship

Bluejay women take 22nd and men take 25th
PEORIA, Ill. -- The Creighton women's cross country team placed 22nd and the men took 25th place at the Bradley "Pink" Classic on Friday in Peoria, Ill.. The event served as Creighton's final tune-up prior to the BIG EAST Championships, which are two weeks away.
Danielle Hotalling paced the Bluejay women with a 25th place finish, crossing the finish line in a time of 21:35.4 It was the 18th time in as many collegiate starts that she's been Creighton's top finisher. That time put her exactly one minute behind Wichita State's Yazmine Wright, who topped the field of 286 runners by just over four seconds.
Marguerite Hendrickson earned a 59th place finish with a time of 22:11 on the 6K Newman Golf Course layout. That clocking was 30 seconds faster than her showing at the Bradley Pink Classic in 2019.
Caroline Colburn (113th; 22:42.3), Abby Parker (141st; 22:58.0) and Kat Shein (177th; 23:16.4) rounded out the CU line-up.
Creighton's top performer on the men's side was John Quigley, who took 44th place with a time of 24:56.3 on the 8K course. It's the third time in four meets this fall that Quigley has been CU's race leader. Quigley's time was 23 seconds faster than his pace on the same course two years ago.
Freshman Ryan Montera was CU's No. 2 runner for the first time this fall, taking 115th place with a time of 25:32.0. That was one second faster than teammate Danny Bohnemann, who was in 119th place. Bohnemann improved his time from 2019 by 17 seconds.
Rounding out the Bluejay line-up were Marcos Gonzalez (1555th; 25:53.6) and Henry Slagle (162nd; 26:02.4).
The men's race featured 248 runners and was won by Nebraska's Dais Malebana, who out-raced Eastern Illinois' Dustin Hatfield by 10.8 seconds to the tape.
The University of Nebraska won the 37-team women's race with 122 points, 14 fewer than Iowa and 85 less than race host Bradley. Wichita State won the men's race by 21 points over Eastern Illinois in a field of 31 programs.
Creighton returns to the course on Oct. 29 in Carmel, Ind., at the BIG EAST Championships. The meet will be aired on subscription-based FloSports.
