Men's Golf Earns 12th Place Finish at Zach Johnson Invitational

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa -- Jack Olson and Charlie Zielinski tied for 45th place to help lead the Creighton men's golf team to a 12th place finish at the Zach Johnson Invitational.

Creighton's third tournament of the fall saw the Bluejays compile scores of 299, 295 and 304 en route to a 898 total. Drake and North Dakota State shared the team title with an 853 aggregate, while Southern Illinois' Matthis Besard won the event by five shots following a 10-under 203 total.

Olson had a 78 in the opening round before posting his best collegiate score (73) in back-to-back rounds. Zielinski fired a pair of 75s on Monday before closing with a 74, extending his career-opening streak to 27 straight rounds of 79 or better.

Tying for 54th place with a 226 total were Jackson Thompson and Cade McCallum. Thompson posted scores of 76, 73 and 77 to get there, and McCallum shot an even-par 71 before closing with loops of 75 and 80. McCallum now owns four career rounds of par or better.

Jack's brother, Ethan Olson, made his season debut with a tie for 79th place. He put together scores of 77, 74 and 83 for a 234 total. His 74 was the lowest collegiate score of his career.

Fifteen teams and 84 players competed on the Glen Oaks Country Club course that measured 6,898 yards and played to a par 71 layout.

Creighton returns to action next Monday and Tuesday at Stampede At The Creek, which will be hosted by Nebraska-Omaha at The Club at Indian Creek in neighboring Elkhorn.
