Rowing Wins Races Over Saint Mary's, Santa Clara and Drake

Bluejays host Kansas next Saturday
CARTER LAKE, Iowa -- The Creighton rowing team won races over Saint Mary's, Santa Clara and Drake on Saturday at Carter Lake on Saturday, April 2.
"It was a great of racing in Omaha," said Creighton head coach Dan Chipps. "I was excited and grateful to have Drake and West Coast Conference opponents Saint Mary's and Santa Clara in for some early season racing. It was nice to see them before the WCC Championships on May 14 in Sacramento."
The Bluejays won three races against Saint Mary's on Saturday morning to open the competition, starting with the Varsity 8 race by 24 seconds over the Gaels. That boat consisted of Maria Fier, Jacque Holdren, Isabella Fier, Mary Hartigan, Karen Crouch, Destiny Jordan, Rebecca Meyer, Gretchen Strobbe and coxswain Ally Einbeck.
In the W2V8 race Creighton turned in a time of 7:25.7, besting Saint Mary's by 36 seconds behind the efforts of Erica Chronik, Angel Hill, Riley Vigil, Emma Carpender, Grace Frechette, Vanessa Gabaldon, Wendy Wilson, Lauren Miranda and coxswain Mackenzie Allen.
Creighton's Varsity 4 crew of Maeve Lee, Honor Foutch, Sydney Hiatt, Ava Edison and coxswain Grace Bruckner defeated their Gaels counterparts by more than 85 seconds with a time of 8:23.8.
In the W3V8 competition Creighton's time of 8:02.3 beat their rivals from Drake by 20 nearly 20 seconds. That group consisted of Sarah Herzer, Mary Kate Kelly, Sofia Aguirre, Maddey King, Avery Boucher, Taylor Garrett, Mya Rowe, Nina Ricci and Kathryn Bergman.
CU's 2V4 line-up of Erica Svenby, Emma Johnson, Bridget Stumbris, Hallie Sanders and coxswain Claire Winter took second place with a clocking of 8:39.8, which was 21 seconds behind Drake.
The afternoon competition featured a battle against Santa Clara, where CU's Varsity 8 contingent turned in a time of 7:04.1 to beat Santa Clara by 20 seconds and a Varsity 4 clocking of 8:14.1 to defeat the Bronco boat by 72 seconds.
The Bluejays stayed strong in three races against Drake to close the afternoon.
CU's Varsity 8 boat defeated the Bulldog boat by 11 seconds with a time of 6:57.1 while the Varsity 4 shell compiled a time of 8:47.4 to defeat Drake's squad by 30 seconds. Drake won the W2V8 race by six seconds over CU's boat.
Creighton returns to the water on Saturday, April 9 when it hosts Kansas at Noon.
