Men's Soccer Toppled by Connecticut, 2-0

Omaha, Neb. -- Coming off the high of a 3-2 win over No. 7 Akron on Wednesday, Creighton Men's Soccer suffered a 2-0 loss to Connecticut on Saturday, October 21.
The loss moved the Bluejays to 4-6-5 on the season and 3-3-1 in BIG EAST action, while Connecticut climbed to 8-6-1 overall and 4-3-0 in conference play.
The Huskies struck first in the fourth minute as Pierce Bateson drove in a pass from by Nicolas Tomerius, beating Bluejay goalkeeper Blake Gillingham.Â
Creighton appeared to have found the equalizer in the 15th minute, but Creighton's tally was waved off by an offside call. Later in the frame the Bluejays drew a foul just outside the box. The Bluejay shot was blocked by Connecticut's wall. The momentum of the stop for the Huskies swung to Connecticut as Scott Testori drove in the rebound of a blocked shot by Ayoub Lajhar in the 36th minute (35:26).
Trailing 2-0 at the break, Creighton came about firing in the second half. The Bluejays however saw a shot in the 46th minute by Sean Green glance off the right post. Green's shot traveled across the endline, also striking the left post. Depsite hitting both posts the shot did not cross the goal line.
Creighton continued to fire away, banging 12 shots in the second half to no avail. The Bluejays out shot Connecticut 19-9 in the match and held an edge of 7-1 in corners created.
Creighton closes out the regular season on Saturday, October 28 with a road match at St. John's. All six BIG EAST matches next Saturday will begin at 1:00 pm (CT).
