Lanahan and Gandini have qualified and will head to San Diego, California for the ITA Fall National Championship on Nov. 1-5
STILLWATER, Okla. – Senior Matthew Lanahan and junior Alejandro Gandini had their magical doubles run come to a close after dropping a three-set thriller to Oklahoma State's Tyler Zink and Isaac Becroft in the ITA Central Regional Doubles Finals on Saturday afternoon in Stillwater, Okla.
The dynamic duo dropped the first set of the day, 6-2, but regrouped and responded with a 7-5 victory in set two to force a decisive winner-take-all third set. In the final frame, Lanahan and Gandini held behind early and just could not recover as they dropped the third set, 10-6.
"I'm unspeakably proud of our doubles team of Alejandro and Matthew," said head coach Gerhard Posch. "They arguably played their best match of the tournament in the finals. I'm proud of our entire team. We learned a lot about supporting each other and how well we are able to play tennis when it matters the most."
Lanahan and Gandini will have a few weeks to prepare before heading out to San Diego, California for the ITA Fall National Championships held at the Barnes Tennis Center on Nov. 1 – Nov. 5.
