#21 Women's Basketball Calms Jackrabbits in Non-Conference Finale

Creighton finishes 9-1 in non-conference play
Omaha, Neb. -- Emma Ronsiek had 19 points and tied a school-record with seven blocked shots to lead No. 21 Creighton to a 58-46 win over South Dakota State on Thursday evening inside D.J. Sokol Arena.
With the win, Creighton moved to 9-2 on the year, while South Dakota State dropped to 6-5 on the season.
South Dakota State dominated the opening minutes, racing to a 13-2 lead to force an early Bluejay timeout. The Jackrabbits dished eight assists on nine first half baskets and led 19-11 after 10 minutes.
Creighton took control of the game with a dominant second quarter, outscoring the defending Summit League champions 18-4. The Bluejays closed the first half on a 15-0 run, fueled by nine points from Emma Ronsiek, to take a 29-23 lead into the half. Ronsiek had 11 points and a career-high five blocked shots in the half.
The Jacks went more than 12 minutes without a field goal, a stretch spanning the final 6:17 of second quarter and the first 5:39 of the third quarter before a Paige Meyer triple finally snapped the drought. In the process, Creighton went from trailing 23-14 to leading 34-25 thanks to a 20-2 run.
Creighton extended its lead in the third quarter with a triple by Lauren Jensen and a buzzer-beater by Ronsiek as CU took a 44-30 advantage into the fourth quarter.
The Jackrabbits never got closer than 10 points in the final frame as CU won for the ninth time in 10 non-conference contests.
Ronsiek finished with 19 points, finishing one point shy of becoming CU's first player with five straight 20-point games since 2005. She also added six rebounds in addition to her seven swats. Also in double-figures was Morgan Maly with 13 pionts, while Molly Mogensen had seven points and tied a career-high with eight rebounds.
SDSU was paced by 12 points from Brooklyn Meyer, while Tori Nelson added 10 points, six rebounds and three blocks. After shooting 9-for-16 in the first quarter, SDSU shot just 12-of-37 the rest of the night.
Creighton will take a holiday break before returning to BIG EAST play on Dec. 30th with a 4 p.m. home game vs. St. John's.
