Eason and Daijima’s Group Titles Highlight Final Day For Men’s Tennis at Drake Invite

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Junior transfer Blake Eason claimed the singles crown in group 13 and sophomore Yuma Daijima captured the group 11 singles title as the Creighton men's tennis team wrapped up play at the Drake Invite on Sunday afternoon.
Over the course of the three-day event, Creighton produced 22 wins, including nine victories in doubles play.
"We continued to compete well today, and the guys keep exploring their game," said head coach Gerhard Posch. "They are discovering areas they want to improve in, and we will continue to grow from this weekend as a group."
Eason closed out the first weekend of competition with a perfect 6-0 record after claiming his first title as a Bluejay with a 6-2, 6-1 straight sets victory over Mariano Orsini Rodriguez.
After capturing a pair of wins on Saturday, Daijima cruised to the group 11 singles title defeating Derrick Namanya, 6-1, 6-1 for his first tournament title at Creighton.
Senior Matthew Lanahan earned a 7-6 (7-4), 6-1 victory over Marco Siviero in group 2, while sophomore Kirtan Patel claimed a 6-3, 6-2 straight sets win over Dominik Knutson in group 7. Sophomore Zachary Kuo secured a 6-3, 4-6, 10-3 three-set victory on Taona Mhwandagara in group 9, while junior Ethan Neil closed the day by defeating Caleb Peterson, 6-2, 6-1 in group 10.
Creighton returns to the courts on Saturday, Sept. 23 for the Omaha Invite, hosted by the Mavericks at Millard North High School.
