Men's Golf Divides Team For Tournaments in Colorado, Minnesota

11 Bluejays see action in fall competition
ERIE, Colo. and STILLWATER, Minn. -- Eleven members of the Creighton men's golf team were in action on Monday and Tuesday as six Bluejays played in the 14th Annual Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational in Erie, Colo., while five individuals headed to the Tommie Invitational in Stillwater, Minn.
14th Annual Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational
Despite shooting a 5-over 869, Creighton (289-289-291=869) tied for 13th place against a strong field at the 14th Annual Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational.
Jake Boor (72-71-74=217) tied for 53rd place to lead Creighton, finishing one shot better than sophomore teammate Owen Price (70-75-73=218), who was making his season debut and tied for 58th place.
Junior Grant Feldman (75-71-73=219) and freshman Henry Kuehne (75-72-72=219) were part of a logjam in 64th place, and Gavin Gerch placed 94th after loops of 72, 82 and 73 for a 227 aggregate. It was the first collegiate tournament for Kuehne.
Colorado State (282-276-270=828) fired an 18-under 270 on the final day to move from fourth place to first to earn a four-shot win over tournament host Colorado (275-274-283=832).
Saint Mary's Aidan Lee (66-69-68-203), UTEP's Dylan Teeter (69-65-69=203) and Colorado's Justin Biwer (67-68-68=203) tied for first with a 13-under total. Lee and Teeter both made par in the one-hole playoff to share medalist honors, while Biwer picked up after he was going to make bogey. The field included 19 teams and 104 players on the Colorado National Golf Club course that had a Par 72 layout measuring 7,567 yards.
Tommie Invitational
Brock Kuhlman (70-77-75=222) tied for 10th place to lead five Creighton golfers who competed as individuals at the Tommie Invitational. His opening-round 70 was his best round as a Bluejay and helped him secure his first Top 10 finish at the collegiate level.
Tying for 17th in his Creighton debut was Kyle Leydon (71-72-81=224). After redshirting last season, Leydon broke par in his first round at the collegiate level and followed it up with an even-par 72 in his second round on Monday.
Radley Mauney (75-75-75=225) fired three rounds of 75 to tie for 19th place. He's now had matching scores in the second and third rounds of all three tournament he's played in this fall.
Rounding out the Bluejay squad in Stillwater was Carson Wright (76-79-76=231), Kolby Brown (77-79-76=232) and Jacob Kutner (78-73-86=237). Wright tied for 37th and Kutner tied for 51st in their collegiate debuts, while Brown tied for 39th in his first competitive rounds as a Bluejay in almost exactly two years.
North Dakota State (294-286-298=878) won the eight-team Tommie Invitational by seven shots over host St. Thomas (294-298-293=885).
NDSU's Ian Simonich (72-71-72=215) posted a two-shot victory over South Dakota's Cole Witherow (76-71-70=217) and the Northern Iowa duo of Calen Bishop (74-69-74=217) and Connor VanWeelden (70-70-77=217). The field included 62 competitors on the StoneRidge Golf Club course that measured 7,013 yards on the Par 72 layout.
Creighton is back in action on Oct. 7-9 in Homer, Neb., when it defends its title in the Throwdown Up Top at Landmand.
