Jasen Green had a career-high 14 points
OMAHA, Neb. -- Jamiya Neal finished one assist shy of a triple-double and Jasen Green scored a career-high 14 points as Creighton men's basketball rallied from a double-digit deficit to defeat visiting Georgetown, 80-69, before a sellout crowd of 17,545 on Sunday.
Steven Ashworth led CU with 20 points and Ryan Kalkbrenner contributed 19 points, eight rebounds and four blocked shots. Neal posted his second double-double of the year with 13 points, 12 rebounds and nine assists, and Green made 5-of-7 shots to finish with 14 points for Creighton (19-8, 12-4 BIG EAST).
Micah Peavy had 18 points in the first 12:04 of the contest but finished with 20 points and added 12 rebounds for Georgetown (16-11, 7-9 BIG EAST). Jayden Epps topped all players with 22 points and Malik Mack contributed 15 points.
A hot start from Peavy helped Georgetown take a 36-26 lead after 13 minutes before CU rallied with a strong finish to the first half. Neal made a three-pointer from the right corner, then beat the shot clock with a difficult turnaround jumper from 17 feet. CU knotted the score at 42-all when Ashworth was left alone from 27 feet on the left wing, and CU took its only lead of the first half on two Kalkbrenner free throws with 1.0 seconds left to own a 44-42 lead heading into intermission.
The Bluejays scored the first seven points of the second half on two Green free throws, a Jackson McAndrew three-ball and a dunk from Kalkbrenner to cap a 22-4 run. The CU lead grew to double-figures (56-46) when Green finished an alley-oop with 16:23 left and grew as large a 14 (60-46) after a Kalkbrenner lay-up in transition with 15:34 left. Georgetown got within five (64-59) with just under 10 minutes left but a Kalkbrenner dunk and trifecta from Fedor Zugic helped hold off the Hoyas.
Creighton won the rebound battle 49-37 and owned all 11 of the game's bench points. The Hoyas shot 38.5 percent from the floor and drained just 7-of-14 free throw tries.
