64th straight week in the rankings ties a program record
It's the 64th week in a row that Creighton has been ranked, tying a program-record first done from Oct. 31, 2016 to March 15, 2021. CU's current streak began on Sept. 6, 2021.
Creighton was swept by preseason No. 2 Penn State and No. 5 Texas before bouncing back for a 3-2 win over No. 14 Kansas yesterday. The new poll saw the Nittany Lions and Longhorns flip spots, while KU dropped just a single spot to No. 15 despite a 1-3 start that includes five-set losses to Penn State, No. 8 Wisconsin and Creighton.
The Bluejays are one of 13 schools (along with Baylor, Florida, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Louisville, Nebraska, Penn State, Pitt, Purdue, Stanford, Texas and Wisconsin) to have been ranked each of the last 64 polls. Creighton has been ranked in all but six of the past 133 times the AVCA has put out a Top 25 poll and 141 times in program history, which ranks 39th-most all-time. Creighton is 234-50 all-time when playing as a ranked team in the AVCA poll.
This is the 14th straight campaign that Creighton has spent at least one week in the Top 25. CU's all-time best ranking in program history is No. 5, which came four straight weeks last November (Nov. 4, Nov. 11, Nov. 18, Nov. 25, 2024).
Nebraska was a unanimous pick for the top spot after a 4-0 start that includes three Top 10 wins and is ahead of Texas, Louisville, Kentucky and Penn State.
Creighton will play three matches next weekend at the Trojan Invitational in Los Angeles, starting with Friday's 6 p.m. Central contest against San Diego (3-0). The Bluejays will also meet undefeated UC Santa Barbara (2-0) on Saturday as well as No. 22Â USC (2-0) on Sunday.
