Reed and Hudson Claim BIG EAST Weekly Honors

Omaha, Neb. -- Fueled by their performance in Creighton's 2-0 win over Denver on Friday, junior Matthew Reed and freshman Matthew Hudson collected the BIG EAST Weekly Honors on Monday, September 8. Reed was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week, while Hudson earned BIG EAST Freshman of the Week.

Entering the week with one career point, Reed delivered his first goal and second career assist in Creighton's 2-0 win over Denver on Friday evening. His first goal came on a set play off a throw in, finding the head of Ayden Kokoszka before Reed headed home the goal in the 80^th minute. His assist came in the 89^th minute, centering a ball to Miguel Arilla from just inside the 18-yard goal box to put the match away. One of the Bluejays' captains also played a pivotal role in shutting out Denver for the first since October 19, 2024. Reed helped limit the Pioneers to seven shots in the match, not allowing a shot on goal over the final 37 minutes.

Creighton's freshman goalkeeper posted his second consecutive shutout of the season, grabbing a career-high five saves in the win. Matthew faced seven shots in the match, stopping a pair in the first half and three more in the first eight minutes of the second half. This was the first shutout of the Pioneers since October 19, 2024, a stretch of 14 matches. Hudson recorded seven saves in his first four contests, giving him 12 on the season.

Reed, Hudson and their Bluejay teammates face crosstown rival Omaha on Wednesday, September 10 in a true doubleheader as the men's and women's teams from Creighton and Omaha battle. The women's match is slated to kickoff at 5:00 p.m., with the men's contest scheduled to begin at 7:45 p.m.

The doubleheader is the first Kicks for a Cure battle in the fall. An ongoing spring tradition to help raise funds and awareness for cancer research come to the competition season for the first time in 2025.

BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week
Austin Brummett, UConn, Sr., F (Bow, N.H.)
In a 2-0 week for the Huskies, Brummett led the offensive attack with a trio of goals as UConn improved to 4-0-2 on the season. Brummett opened the week with the lone goal in a 1-0 win over Central Connecticut State on Thursday. The senior forward followed it up with a brace in a 3-0 triumph against Colgate on Sunday. Brummett has now scored in three straight games and leads the conference with five goals in six matches.

BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week
Mitch Budler, Akron, R-Sr., GK (Lincoln, Neb.)
Budler anchored the defensive efforts for the Zips versus Ohio State, registering a season-best seven saves to extend the team's shutout streak to five to start the season. The victory was the first for the Zips in Columbus since 2016. Budler acted as a stonewall in the first half corralling four saves against eight shots by the Buckeyes to send the contest into the break tied at 0-0. In the second half, Budler faced six corner kicks and five overall shots, collecting three more saves to secure the clean sheet. He is one of two goalies in the country to register an NCAA-best five shutouts en route to owning a 0.00 GAA and a 1.000 save percentage on the year.

Caleb Borneo, Akron, R-So., M (Morgantown, W.Va.
Borneo led the offensive attack against Ohio State with a second half brace in a 2-0 triumph.

Aurie Brisco, Butler, Gr., GK (Englewood, N.J.)
In a 2-1 win over Western Michigan, Brisco made four saves, including two on a penalty kick and a successive rebound shot.

Kyle Durham, UConn, R-Fr., GK (Brooklyn, N.Y.)
Durham collected a pair of cleans sheets and made eight saves in a 2-0 week for the Huskies.

Zach Zengue, Georgetown, Sr., M (North Oaks, Minn.)
Zengue registered a goal and an assist in a 2-2 draw with No. 14 Duke Friday night.

Jeremy Sharp, St. John's, Sr., D (Roseville, Mich.)
Sharp played a major factor on both ends of the pitch, notably tallying the equalizer in the 72^nd minute against No. 2 Marshall. The 1-1 draw Friday night marks the Red Storm's highest ranked result in 18 years.
