McHugh's Four-Hit Night Lifts Baseball to 8-2 Win Over Mavericks

Omaha, Neb. -- Nate McHugh delivered four hits, including a two-run blast to put Creighton ahead, as Bluejay Baseball defeated Omaha 8-2 on Wednesday, March 18.
The victory pushed Creighton to 9-8 on the season, while Omaha fell to 7-11.
Omaha took an early 1-0 in the top of the second as Hayden Lewis blasted a solo home run over the center field wall. The Mavericks extended their edge to 2-0 on an RBI single from Henry Zipay in the third.
Creighton responded with two runs in the third, loading the bags on a walk to Teddy Deters, a single from McHugh and a walk to Isaac Wachsmann. Joe Washburn paid off the opportunity with an RBI single to third, while an errant throw tied the contest as McHugh scampered across.
Two innings later Deters drew his third walk of the game, then McHugh blasted his fifth home run of the season to put Creighton up 4-2.
The Bluejays tacked on four runs in the seventh, pushing across four runs on three hits and two walks. The inning began with a walk to Deters and a single from McHugh. One out later Wachsmann drew the Bluejays' eighth free pass of the game to load the bases. Nick Venteicher followed with an RBI single to right field, then Connor Capece laced a two-run single to left-center and Nick Bowron lifted a sacrifice fly to center to give Creighton an 8-2 edge.
Brian Gould earned the win (1-0), tossing 2.2 innings of scoreless relief. Omaha reliever Brayden Curtis took the loss (1-1), allowing two runs on three hits.
Creighton heads out to Miami on Thursday morning as the Bluejays open a three-game series against the Miami Hurricanes on Friday, March 20 at 6:00 pm.
