OMAHA, Neb. --Â For the first time in her young career, Creighton Softball's Keegan Mayhue has been named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week, the league announced on Monday afternoon.
Mayhue, an Elm Mott, Texas native, started all five games for the Bluejays at the Colorado Classic, posting a .313 (5-of-16) batting average with a double and a team-high three home runs and nine RBI on a .938 slugging percentage.
The freshman slugger started the weekend with a 1-for-3 showing at the plate, with her lone hit coming in a big way as she blasted a three-run home run to erase an early deficit to Northern Colorado.
Mayhue followed that up by going 3-for-5 with a career-high six RBI while recording the first multi-home run game of her career in the Bluejays 20-11 record setting win over Northern Colorado. She opened the day by launching her first collegiate grand slam to give the Jays its first lead of the day, before following it up with a solo home run and an RBI double to lead the Bluejays to victory.
Mayhue then close out the Colorado Classic by going 1-for-3 with a run scored in the first meeting with Colorado State on Saturday afternoon.
Mayhue and the rest of the Bluejays are back in action this weekend when they open BIG EAST play on the road at Seton Hall.Â
