Senior guard is third Bluejay to ever win it.
OMAHA, Neb. -- Creighton senior Josh Dix has been selected as the recipient of the 2026 BIG EAST Sportsmanship Award. He is the third Bluejay to be recognized with the honor since joining the league 13 seasons ago, joining Mitch Ballock (2021) and Steven Ashworth (2024).
Per the BIG EAST, the Sportsmanship Award winners are strong contributors to their respective teams on and off the court. The league's head coaches nominate and select the award winners. They are not permitted to vote for their own players.
A Council Bluffs, Iowa, native, Dix is finishing his first season in a Creighton uniform after spending three years at Iowa. He has started all 31 games for the Bluejays, averaging a team-high 12.7 points to go with 3.7 rebounds per game. He leads the team in free throw percentage (.870) and ranks second on the club with 60 three-pointers made. Dix ranks sixth in the BIG EAST in minutes per game, 11th in three-pointers per game and 17th in points per game.
Dix scored a season-high 22 points in CU's regular-season finale at Butler and also scored 21 points in a win at No. 5 Connecticut.
Other awards announced on Monday were Defensive Player of the Year (St. John's Zuby Ejiofor), Most Improved Player (Villanova's Tyler Perkins) and Sixth Man Award (Villanova's Devin Askew).
The BIG EAST will announce the remaining individual awards: Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, Freshman of the Year and Men's Basketball Scholar-Athlete on Wednesday, March 11.
After earning the No. 5 seed in the upcoming BIG EAST Tournament presented by JEEP, Creighton (15-16, 9-11 BIG EAST) will meet Seton Hall (20-11, 10-10 BIG EAST) in Thursday's quarterfinal round at 1:30 p.m. Central.
