Bluejay Baseball Falls at Nebraska, 5-4

Lincoln, Neb. --Â Creighton dropped a second one-run game of the season to state rival Nebraska, falling 5-4 on Tuesday, April 14. The loss moved Creighton to 18-16 on the season, while Nebraska climbed to 28-9.
The Bluejays came out swinging as the first four Bluejay hitters delivered hits. Lew Rice opened the game connecting on an 0-2 pitch for a single to center. Nate McHugh followed with his seventh home run of the season down the left field line. Ben North and Isaac Wachsman followed with singles as the Bluejays jumped out to a 3-0 edge in the opening frame. Teddy Deters collected the third RBI of the inning with a sacrifice fly to left.
Nick Venteicher extended Creighton's advantage to 4-0 with a solo home run in the second, but the Huskers countered with a two-run shot to right by Drew Grego in the bottom half to bring the game to 4-2.
Nebraska surged ahead with three runs in the third, taking advantage of three walks and three singles off reliever Evan Stratton to nab a 5-4 lead.
Stratton took the loss (2-1) allowing three runs in the third, while Nebraska reliever Tucker Timmerman nabbed the win (3-1) with two innings of one-run ball.
The Bluejays return to the diamond on Friday, April 17 as Creighton travels to Pennsylvania to face Villanova in a three-game set. The opening contest is slated for a 2:00 pm (CT).
