
Men's Golf Closes Strong at UCSB Gaucho Invite

Feldman earns fourth straight top-10 finish
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -- Three members of the Creighton men's golf team broke par in the final round to help the Bluejays to a tie for seventh place at the UCSB Gaucho Invite on Tuesday in Santa Barbara, Calif.
Grant Feldman opened with back-to-back rounds of 72, then bogeyed two of his first three holes on Tuesday before catching fire. The senior would birdie four of his final five holes to shoot 70 and finish eighth with a 214 total. Feldman now has shot par or better in 20-of-26 rounds this season and picked up his fourth straight top-10 finish.
Creighton's best golfer on Tuesday was junior Owen Price, who fired six birdies and matched his season-low with a 68 in the final round. Combined with a pair of 75's to open the event on Monday, Price finished in a tie for 15th.
Jacob Kutner tied for 34th with scores of 74, 75 and 76, while Gavin Gerch shook off an opening round 85 to close with loops of 73 and 71 to rise from 56th after one round to jump to 43rd in the final standings.
Rounding out the Bluejay line-up was Radley Mauney, who improved from an 80 to circuits of 78 and 74 for a 232 total that was good for a tie for 46th place.
Three Bluejays played as individuals, but did not count towards CU's team total. Brock Kuhlman shared 24th place following scores of 73, 75 and 74 for a 222 total. Kolby Brown responded from an opening 82 to shoot a 235 total after scores of 77 and 76 to tie for 51st. Henry Kuehne shot a 79, 77 and 80 for a 236 aggregate that placed him 53rd.Â
As a team, Creighton placed eighth with scores of 301, 295 and 283 for a 579 total.
Tournament host UC Santa Barbara (280-289-286=855) won the tournament by two shots over runner-up Denver (295-281-281=857). Denver's Zander Grant (73-66-71=211) earned medalist honors by one shot over UCSB's Ryan Gay (70-73-68=211) Boise State's Cole Rueck (71-69-71=211).
The tournament was contested at Sandpiper GC on a course that measured 7,078 yards on its Par 72 layout. The tournament featured nine teams and 56 competitors.
The Bluejays close their regular-season on May 2-4 in Hardeeville, S.C., when it plays at Riverton Pointe Country Club for the BIG EAST Championships. Creighton finished third in the event last year to match its best finish since joining the league in 2013.
