Olivia Sides Named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week

OMAHA, Neb. – Fresh off Creighton's 1-0 victory over crosstown rival Omaha on Wednesday, sophomore defender Olivia Sides has been named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league on Monday afternoon.
This marks the second BIG EAST weekly honor of Sides' career as she was also named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week on Nov. 3rd last year.
Sides was a steady piece of the Bluejays' defensive unit last week, helping Creighton record its fifth shutout of the season in a 1-0 victory over the Mavericks on Wednesday night.
The standout sophomore played the full 90 minutes for the fifth time this season, notching her first assist of the year, dishing out a helper on the game-winning goal in the opening minutes of the second half at Omaha.
Sides and the rest of the Creighton women's soccer team will return to the pitch on Saturday, Sept. 26 when they open up BIG EAST play against Providence at 12 p.m. inside Morrison Stadium.
