Michael Kraus, the 2006 Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year, returns to Creighton to complete his undergraduate studies and help the team he played for from 2003-06. The addition of another former Major League Soccer player adds more talent and professional playing experience to Jamie Clark’s first staff.
A draft pick of the Kansas City Wizards in 2007, Kraus spent three seasons with the MLS organization from 2007-09. After appearing in a postseason match with the team in 2008, Kraus scored his first professional goal less than two minutes after entering the match in his regular-season MLS debut in 2009.
The Memphis, Tenn., native was a Bluejay captain in his senior season in 2006, leading the team with six goals (five game-winners) in his MVC Player of the Year campaign. In addition to his first-team all-MVC honor in 2006, he was also a second-team honoree in 2005. The forward was named to the NSCAA All-Midwest Region team three times, earning first team honors as a senior.
Kraus was a member of two MVC regular-season title teams and two MVC tournament championship teams. He is one of only two players in school history to be named to the MVC All-Tournament Team three times. Six of his nine assists as a freshman came in NCAA Tournament play, establishing a school-record for single-season and career NCAA helpers. Ten of his 21 career goals were game-winners, while he also added 17 assists for 59 career points, starting 56 of the 69 career games he played as a Bluejay.
Kraus is finishing his degree in psychology this semester, before a planned return to professional soccer.
