NEW HAVEN, Conn. - For the fourth consecutive Friday the Creighton men's soccer team out-played its opponent, but for the fourth consecutive week were held without a goal. The Bluejays fell to 17th-ranked Brown, 1-0, on Friday at the Yale Classic, despite out-shooting the Bears 14-3. The loss drops the Jays to 2-3-2 on the season.
“I'd much rather be a team throughout the year that is taking 14 shots per game, than a team which only manages three shots off of free kicks in a game,” Head Coach Bob Warming said after another frustrating outing from his team.
The Jays pounded the Bears (3-0-0) in the first half, attempting six shots while preventing Brown from taking any shots in the first 45 minutes. An Adom Crew shot at 66:54 was the difference for the Bears, as he was able to emerge from a scramble for the ball in front and put it in the net.
Nine of CU's 15 shots went on goal, with Brown's keeper stopping all nine in the shutout. Matt Jewett, Jarod Tarver and Andrew Peterson each managed two shots on goal apiece. CU's best scoring chances came with 15 minutes left in the second half, but Brown's Christopher Gomez made back-to-back saves on Jewett and Zach Piercy, both from point-blank range.
CU has now out-shot the opposition 71-39 on Friday nights this season, but has notched a 0-2-2 mark in that span.
The Jays will look to convert some scoring chances when they take the field again on Sunday against Yale. The Jays and Bulldogs will battle at 1:30 p.m. (CST) to conclude the tournament.
