Men's Soccer Blanks Spartans 2-0

GREENSBORO, N.C. ? Goals from Thomas Gjoesund and Andrei Gotsmanov and a season-high eight saves by Matt Allen helped guide the 10th-ranked Creighton men's soccer team to a 2-0 non-conference road victory at UNC Greensboro Saturday night. The fourth shutout of the season for CU moved the Bluejays to a perfect 5-0-0 away from Omaha and 8-1-4 on the season.

The Bluejays got on the score board in the first half, with Gjoesund's team-leading fifth goal of the year in the 41st minute. His header found the back of the net off of a crossing pass from Danny Minutillo. The score was the Norway native's third of the week and his second game-winner in as many games.

Creighton struck again in the 80th minute. Gotsmanov found the back of the net for the fourth time this year when he received a pass Tim Bohnenkamp deep in the 18-yard box and put it past the UNCG (6-7-2) goalkeeper.

"UNC Greensboro might have one of the most dynamic midfields we've seen this year," said head coach Bob Warming after the match. "It was a great end-to-end match and when they return the trip to Omaha, I really think that fans will enjoy watching the match."

Allen turned away eight Spartan shots in picking up his 23rd career shutout, moving just one shy of the school record.

The Jays have won three straight and are now on a seven-match unbeaten streak. Saturday's regulation match, coupled with Wednesday's regulation finish marks the first time all season the Jays have played two consecutive games without going into overtime.

The Bluejays return to Missouri Valley Conference action next Saturday when they play host to Missouri State at Morrison Stadium on Senior Night. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
