OMAHA, Neb. ? Senior Ally Thrall scored a career-high 23 points, including seven of Creighton's eight points in overtime, to lead the Bluejays to a come-from-behind overtime victory against Missouri State Sunday afternoon at the Omaha Civic Auditorium. The Bluejays (9-4, 2-0 MVC) out-scored the Lady Bears (2-11, 0-2 MVC) 8-2 in overtime to capture a 79-73 win.
Creighton trailed 41-34 at halftime and found itself down 50-37 less than four minutes into the second half, when its comeback began. After MSU's 9-3 run to open the half, the Bluejays responded with a 17-4 run to tie the game at 54 on a jump shot by Kelsey Crites with 9:21 to play in regulation. The lead would change six more times before the end of the game, with neither team leading by more than three for the final nine minutes.
MSU led by two when Michelle Kaus drained her only three-pointer of the game to give the Jays a 71-70 lead with 1:21 to play. Thrall was whistled for a foul on MSU's next possession, setting up a pair of Tahnee Balerio free-throws with 59 seconds on the clock. Balerio made the first and missed the second to leave the game tied at 71. A turnover on an offensive foul on CU's ensuing possession gave the Lady Bears a chance to win it in regulation, but Balerio missed two shots inside of 25 seconds and the game went to overtime.
The Lady Bears won the overtime tip and missed their first three shots of the extra frame before Thrall took over. The MVC's leading three-point shooter drained an open look with 3:52 to play to put CU up 74-71. Sam Schuett then stole the inbounds pass from Maggie Dwyer and the Jays again found an open Thrall for three to make the score 77-71 with 3:35 left. The Jays made just 2-of-6 free-throws in overtime, but Thrall's threes withstood a 1-for-8 shooting effort from the field by MSU in overtime.
