
Tennis Teams Handle UMKC

OMAHA, Neb. -- The Creighton men's and women's tennis teams each picked up 6-1 victories over the University of Missouri-Kansas City on Saturday at the Hanscom Tennis Courts. The men's team extended its winning streak to four matches, improving to 6-4 on the season. The women moved above the .500 mark at 5-4.
The Bluejay men won all three doubles matches and five of the six singles contests to avenge a 7-0 loss to the Kangaroos last season. Reigning MVC Player of the Week Jose Guerra won at No. 1 singles, defeating Serge Ristivojevic in the most exciting match of the day, 4-6, 7-5, 6-4. Also winning for Creighton were Nikita Dudar at No. 2 (6-3, 6-2), Joe Eckert at No. 3 (7-5, 6-3), James McAvoy at No. 5 (6-1, 6-3) and Bryan Lube at No. 6 (6-2, 6-7, 10-4).
Dudar and Eckert teamed to win at No. 1 doubles, while Guerra and Brian Ward (No. 2) and Lube and Ross Allen (No. 3) also picked up victories for the Jays.
For the CU women, it was reigning MVC Player of the Week Lauren Mastro staying unbeaten at No. 1 singles with a 6-1, 7-6 victory over UMKC's Emily Lindsay. Also picking up wins for the Jays were Lindsey Erickson at No. 2 (6-1, 6-4), Sarah Cadwallader at No. 3 (4-6, 6-2, 6-2), Leesa Cadwallader at No. 4 (6-3, 6-2) and Jodi Yanagida at No. 6 (6-0, 6-3).
The Cadwallader sisters stayed perfect at No. 1 doubles with an 8-6 victory, while Erickson and Mastro won at No. 2 to capture the doubles point.
Both teams will open Missouri Valley Conference play next Friday, with matches against Illinois State in Normal, Ill.
