Illinois State Tops Creighton Tennis Teams In MVC Opener

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- The Creighton men's and women's tennis teams each fell Friday in their conference openers at Illinois State. The Bluejay men picked up a victory at No. 6 singles for its only win in a 6-1 loss to the Redbirds. The CU women lost to Illinois State, 7-0. The men's team now stands at 6-5 overall and 0-1 in the MVC while the women are now 5-5 and 0-1.
Freshman Bryan Lube was the lone winner for the CU men, picking up a forfeit victory at No. 6 singles. Senior Joe Eckert took ISU's Daniel Tobar to three sets before falling at No. 3 singles, ending Eckert's nine-match win streak. The Redbirds came away with straight set wins in the other four singles matches and took the doubles point for the 6-1 team win.
The Redbird women won all six singles matches in straight sets and took the three doubles matches for the 7-0 win. Lauren Mastro's eight-match win streak ended with a loss at No. 2 singles, while Sarah and Leesa Cadwallader suffered their first loss at No. 1 doubles.
