DES MOINES, Iowa -- The Creighton women's tennis team got a victory from Leesa Cadwallader at No. 4 singles, but dropped its Missouri Valley Conference match, 6-1, to Drake Saturday afternoon at the Drake Tennis Center. The 37th-ranked Drake men's tennis team also defeated the Bluejay men, 7-0.
The Creighton women fall to 5-6 overall, while the men are now 6-6. Both squads drop to 0-2 in conference play.
With the Creighton and Drake women's teams each missing their No. 6 player, all seven matches counted as a point. The Bulldogs took both doubles points and four of the five singles victories. Cadwallader was victorious with a 6-7 (7-9), 6-2, 10-5 come-from-behind victory over DU's Sarah Plowman. Sophomore Lindsey Erickson (No. 1) and freshmen Lauren Mastro (No. 2), Sarah Cadwallader (No. 3) and Rachelle Shoji (No. 5) suffered losses in singles play.
The No. 37 Drake men's team was impressive in winning each of the six singles and three doubles matches. The Bulldogs won each singles contest in straight sets. Creighton's Jose Guerra turned in the best performance of the day for the men, giving 64th-ranked Dalibor Pavic some trouble at No. 1 singles before falling 6-1, 6-3.
