Women’s Tennis Opens Fall Season with 12 Victories at Augustana Invite

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Olivia Minikel and Teresa Tran advanced to their singles main draw finals as the Creighton women's tennis team posted 12 victories on the first day of competition at the Augustana Invite in Sioux Falls, S.D. on Saturday, Sept. 12.
The Bluejays' weekend trip to South Dakota marks the beginning of the 2026 fall schedule.
The pair of Minikel and Tran got the Bluejays started early, advancing to the Flight 1 Doubles Semifinals with an 8-2 win over Minnesota State-Mankato's Julia Gurholt and Alma Regina Vazquez Rioja.
Junior duo Karli Vo and Philippa Roy picked up their first win of the season with a 8-6 win over Mankato's Lucia Sliskova and Esther Cerqueira in Flight 2, while Elsa Jurrens and graduate transfer Ella Lewis combined for a 8-5 win over UMary's Emilia Zabala and Sai Ma in Flight 3.
In singles play, Tran rolled into the Flight 1 Main Draw Finals, capturing a pair of three-set victories over Emporia State's Giovanna Ferreira (6-4, 5-7, 11-9) and Augustana's Mica Garcia (7-6 (7-0), 1-6, 10-8). Minikel, meanwhile, advanced to the finals in Flight 2 by defeating Sioux Falls' Chloe Siegfort (6-1, 5-7, 11-9) and South Dakota's Anastasila Soloveva (6-1, 6-1).
Livia Rodrigues Daud rallied for a 4-6, 6-3, 10-2 three-sets win over Emporia State's Yuliya Klimova in the quarterfinals of Flight 2 but dropped a tight battle to Augie's Mariia Bakhtina in the semifinals.
Lewis and Jurrens also picked up a quarterfinals win in their respectable flights, before dropping close matches in the semifinals. Roy and Vo, however, responded from quarterfinals losses with three-set wins in the consolation-semifinals to even their record for the day.
Creighton concludes play at the Augustana Invite on Sunday morning. The action is scheduled to beginning at 9 a.m.
