
Tennis Eases Past Jackrabbits

OMAHA, Neb -- The Creighton tennis teams each picked up convincing victories over South Dakota State on Tuesday afternoon at Hanscom Tennis Courts. The Bluejay men swept their way to a 7-0 victory, while the women bested the Jackrabbits, 5-2.
The men's team reached the .500 mark at 8-8, while the women snapped a six-match losing streak and moved to 6-10.
In men's action, Creighton won each of the six singles and three doubles matches. In the only three-set match of the day (men's or women's), junior Nikita Dudar rallied for a 5-7, 7-5, 6-1 victory at No. 2 singles. The Bluejays took the rest of the singles matches in straight sets, including wins by Jose Guerra at No. 1, Joe Eckert at No. 3, James McAvoy at No. 4, Bryan Lube at No. 5 and Michael Elson at No. 6.
In doubles play, Eckert and Dudar paired to win at No. 1, Lube and McAvoy came away with a win at No. 2 and Guerra and Ross Allen were victorious at No. 3.
On the women's side, Creighton won all but one match played in singles and doubles action. However, CU lost a point by forfeit at No. 6 singles and was unable to field a team at No. 3 doubles. Lindsey Erickson (No. 1), Lauren Mastro (No. 2), Sarah Cadwallader (No. 3) and Leesa Cadwallader (No. 4) all came away with straight-set wins in singles play.
The Cadwallader twins continued their strong play at No. 1 doubles, improving to 16-5 on the season. Erickson and Mastro teamed to win at No. 2, clinching the doubles point for the Bluejays.
Both teams will return to action on Thursday for a Missouri Valley Conference match with Wichita State, set to begin at 12:30 PM at the Koch Family Tennis Center.
