
Kangaroos Leap Past Men's Tennis, 5-2

OMAHA, Neb. - UMKC (3-0) took the first five points of the match, cruising past Creighton (0-2) Friday evening at the Hanscom Indoor Tennis Center.
The Kangaroos started with two quick wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to clinch the point. Patrick Smith and Bret Berryman topped Billy Paluch and J.T. Christian 8-3, while Serge Ristivojevic and Gustavo Guerin won a battle over Kyle Obermeier and Gabe Nagy, 9-7. Creighton salvaged the final match at No. 3, as Sean Mathison and James McAvoy earned a 9-7 win over Erwin Quintanilla and David Heckler.
Ristivojevic earned the first singles point for the Roos, topping Nagy at No. 3 singles, 6-1. 6-4. Smith posted a win at No. 2 over Christian, 6-1, 6-3 and Berryman followed with a clinching victory at No. 1 over Paluch, 6-4, 7-5.
The Roos weren't done there, as Guerin came from behind to defeat Obermeier, 6-7, 6-4, 1-0 (10-9) in a hard-fought, No. 4 singles match. McAvoy earned the Jays first point of the evening, breezing by Quintanilla, 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5, and Mathison won another barn-burner at No. 6, 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-5) to end the dual on a high note for the Jays.
The Jays will be in action on Tuesday, when they host crosstown rival Nebraska-Omaha. The dual between the Jays and Mavericks is set to begin for 12:30 p.m.
