KEARNEY, Neb. - The Creighton Men's Tennis team finished 3-0 on its western swing this weekend, as they completed it with a 9-0 win over Nebraska-Kearney, Sunday afternoon at Harvey Park.
James McAvoy highlighted the Creighton showing, as won his eighth straight match, defeating Kyle Conzemius, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5 singles.
The rest of the Jays (8-2) were just as sharp as McAvoy, as they swept through the Lopers (8-5) in convincing fashion.
Billy Paluch and J.T. Christian continued to be a formidable duo at No. 1 doubles, as they defeated Josh Raymond and John Steinke, 8-4.
That was the closest the Lopers would come at doubles. Connor Macey and Kyle Obermeier topped Revel Yehezkia and Conzemius at No. 2, 8-3, and Bryan Lube and Sean Mathison cruised past Rodrigo Duncan and Aaron Angst, 8-2 at No. 3.
Singles was even more lopsided, as the Lopers did not come closer than 6-4 in any set.
Paluch and Christian went win, win at No. 1 and 2, as Paluch beat Raymond 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1 and Christian topped Yehezkia, 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2.
Gabe Nagy defeated Duncan, 6-3, 6-3 at No. 3 and Obermeier rolled past Steinke, 6-1, 6-4 at No. 4. McAvoy's win at No. 5 followed that, and Ryan Norman wrapped up the rout with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Angst at No. 6.
MVC play will start on Thursday for Creighton, as they will head east to face Drake. Match time is scheduled for 3:00 at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.
