
Men's Tennis Takes on Iowa Hawkeyes in Iowa City

IOWA CITY, Iowa - The Creighton men's tennis team took the courts for the second straight day, this time traveling to Iowa City to meet with Big Ten foe Iowa. The Jays(1-1) traveled over last night after their home win over Western Illinois, but couldn't pull out a weekend sweep, falling 7-0 to the Hawkeyes (1-0).
In doubles action, Ryan Norman and Gabe Nagy played first in no. 3 doubles, falling 8-1 to Garret Dunn and Nikita Zotov of Iowa. Kyle Obermeier and Sean Mathison then took on Austen Kauss and Will Vasos in the no. 2 doubles, pulling a little closer but still falling 8-4. The win gave the Hawkeyes the doubles point.
In no. 1 doubles, J.T. Christian and Billy Paluch battled Marc Bruche and Jonas Dierckx back and forth the whole match, but couldn't come out with the final set, falling 8-7.
Obermeier started off the singles campaign, playing at no. 3 against Will Vasos of Iowa. Obermeier fell 6-1, 6-3 giving Iowa the first point. The Hawkeyes earned the second point in no. 5 singles, when Garret Dunn defeated Nagy 6-1, 6-4.
Third up was Norman taking on Mitch Beckert in the no. 6 singles position. Norman fell 6-2, 6-2 and the Hawkeyes picked up the victory, earning their fouth overall point of the day.
It was then Christain's turn to take on Nikita Zotov in No. 2 singles, falling 6-1 in the opening set, but battling in the second, forcing an extra set to win, which Zotov came out on top 7-5.
Paluch took to the court in No. 1 singles next, battling to a 7-5 loss in the first set and a 6-3 defeat in the second. To close out the day, Bryan Lube fell in two close sets, 7-5, 7-6 to Austen Kauss. The Jays fell 7-0 to the Hawkeyes.
