
Men's Tennis Finishes Play on Day Two of the MVC Individual Championships

DES MOINES, Iowa - The Creighton men's tennis team competed on day two of the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference on Saturday, beginning doubles play in the morning and finishing with semifinal and consolation singles matches in the afternoon.
The Bluejays had three different teams compete in doubles play on Saturday morning, with Billy Paluch and J.T. Christian teaming up at the No. 1 doubles, Sean Mathison and Kyle Obermeier working at No. 2 doubles and Gabe Nagy and Elliott Baker competing in the No. 3 doubles.
In pool 2 of the No. 1 doubles, Paluch and Christian fell 8-1 to Pelaez and Manner of Illinois State before dropping an 8-4 decision to Erasmus and McKie of Drake. Mathison and Obermeier played in pool 1 of the No. 2 doubles, falling 8-5 to Florez and Admiraal of Southern Illinois before just falling short in a 9-8 (6) loss to Weerasinghe and Nguyen of Bradley. In the final pool of play, No. 3 doubles, Nagy and Baker fell 9-7 to Ghorbel and Bracho of Drake before dropping an 8-2 decision to Kalhorn and Albitar of Bradley.
Obermeier earned the consolation win in the No. 3 singles, defeating Brandon Florez of Southern Illinois 6-2, 7-5. In semifinal singles play, Paluch fell in his No. 1 semifinals match to Alex Pelaez of Illinois State in a three-set match, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2.
Christian dropped a 6-2, 6-4 decision to Juan Diego Cuadrado of Bradley in the No. 2 consolation, Norman fell 6-2, 4-6, 10-4 to Hamish Weerasinghe of Bradley in the No. 4 singles and Nagy was defeated in straight 6-3, 6-3 sets by Rafael Cuadrillero of Southern Illinois in the No. 5 singles. In No. 7 singles, Nora fell 6-4, 7-5 to Jordan Snyder of Southern Illinois and Mathison was defeated 6-1, 6-4 by Grant Tesmer of Drake.
The Bluejays will be in action again on Sunday, February 5, when they play against Chicago State in Des Moines, Iowa. First serve is set for 10:00 am.
