
No. 25 Hoyas Too Much For Men's Basketball

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Creighton men's basketball team closed a three-game road trip with a 76-61 loss at No. 25 Georgetown on Saturday afternoon in Washington, D.C.
Georgetown improved to 9-4 (1-1 BiG EAST) with the win, while Creighton fell to 9-6 (0-2 BIG EAST) with the setback.
Freshman L.J. Peak had 14 points and classmate Tre Campbell had a career-high 13 points, while Joshua Smith shook off early foul trouble to finish with 16 points and pace five Hoyas in double-figures on the afternoon.
Creighton led nearly all of the first half, going ahead as large as 13-7 after back-to-back three-pointers by reserves Rick Kreklow and James Milliken. CU went up 29-24 with 2:57 left after two Devin Brooks free throws, only to surrender a half-ending 9-2 run to the Hoyas. Georgetown was led in the first half by seven points from reserve Campbell, while CU was paced by eight points by Isaiah Zierden.
Both teams faced foul trouble in the first half, as Toby Hegner picked up his third foul with 8:49 to play, while Smith earned his third foul with 7:10 remaining.
The Hoyas got three-pointers from Peak and Campbell to open a 39-31 lead three minutes into the second half. CU scored the next five points to get within three points, but would get no closer. A three-pointer by Campbell with 11:36 left gave GU its first double-figure lead of the day (54-44). Creighton would not get within nine the rest of the day.
Zach Hanson had a career-high 11 points for Creighton, while Brooks also had 11 points and a team-high seven rebounds. The Bluejays shot 30.8 percent for the game (16-52), including 20 percent on 25 attempts from three-point range. One bright spot was the rebound battle that CU won, 33-24. That included 16 offensive rebounds, which CU converted into only three points.
The Hoyas shot 75 percent in the second half (15-20), outscoring CU 43-30 after the break. Smith (10), Peak (10) and Jabril Trawick (11) accounted for 31 of GU's 43 points in the second half.
Creighton returns to the court on Wednesday when it hosts first-place DePaul in an 8:01 pm Central start. The Bluejays then remain home to host co-leader Seton Hall on Saturday.

Devin Brooks also returned to the starting line-up, replacing Avery Dingman ...
