Tennis Teams Fall at Marquette

MILWAUKEE, Wis. -- The Creighton men's and women's tennis teams fell by identical 6-1 scores on Friday night at Marquette.

In the men's match, Creighton's lone win came at No. 3 singles, where Harrison Lang posted a 6-3, 6-4 victory over MU's Nick Dykema. Alex Koca lost a three-set contest at No. 2 singles to Alvaro Verdu and Brooks Kendall dropped a three-setter at No. 5 singles to Greg Anderson.

The loss dropped Creighton to 6-6 on the season heading into Saturday's 10 am match vs. Xavier that will also be contested in Milwaukee.

The Bluejay women also dropped to the .500 mark at 7-7 after a 6-1 loss at Marquette heading into Saturday's 10 am match vs. Xavier in Milwaukee.

Four of the six singles matches on the women's side went three sets, but Karlin Naslund's victory at No. 5 would be CU's only conquest. Naslund overcame a 6-3 loss in the first set to top Courtney Hebard 6-2, 6-2 in the final two sets.

The Jays fell behind 3-0 in the match, but each of the final four matches went three sets. Leoni Daems defeated CU's Ashley Monaco at No. 6 singles to clinch the Golden Eagles victory, but the teams continued their closely contested match with narrow Bluejay losses at No. 1, No. 2 singles before Naslund closed the match with a victory.
