Men's Cross Country Ties For 15th in Final BIG EAST Tune-Up

Chase Howard led the team on Saturday in California
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The Creighton men's cross country team raced at the Santa Clara University Bronco Invitational at Baylands Park on Saturday in Santa Clara, Calif.
The Bluejays finished tied for 15th out of 17 teams with a score of 404 in the men's 8K race. Creighton beat Fresno State who scored a 410 and tied Northern Colorado who had 379 points. Portland won the meet with a score of 67 points.
The first Bluejay finisher was sophomore Chase Howard who placed in 74th, running a time of 25:04.1. This was Howard's along with many other of his teammate's first 8K of the season, but it was 54 seconds than his previous career-best at that distance. Howard narrowly fended off a New Mexico State runner to earn the 74th spot, beating him .2 seconds. Following Howard was senior Jacob Ohnstad, running a time of 25:17.6 which earned him the 88th spot in the race. Ohnstad was also able to fend off a New Mexico State runner, winning by less than a tenth of a second. Not far behind Ohnstad was junior Spencer De Jong in 93rd with a time of 25:20.2.
Following the first three Creighton finishers were three consecutive Bluejay harriers. Finishing in 126th place was sophomore Nate Fedel who ran a 26:07.3. Just a tenth of a second behind Fedel was sophomore Nicholas Monkemeyer in 17th with a time of 26:07.4. Following them was junior Ty Medd who ran a 26:08.6 which placed him in 128th.
Creighton senior Jake Landreth finished in 139th after running a 26:25.6. After Landreth was sophomore Chris Smith who finished in 156th which was earned by a time of 27:41.7, demolishing his previous best 8K time. Smith's previous 8K time from the Woody Greeno/Dirksen Cross Country Invitational was 30:33.8.
The men's cross country team will next race at the BIG EAST Championships in Somers, Wisconsin on October 28th .
