Bluejays complete clean-sweep in first match of Florida trip on Monday night
ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Creighton men's tennis team got back to its winning ways on Monday night in Orlando as the Bluejays swept John Carroll to win their first of four matches this week in Florida.
Creighton moved to 3-8 on the season with the victory.
Doubles action started swiftly in favor of the Bluejays as Creighton took an early advantage in the No. 1 spot behind a 6-4 victory from the pair of Alex Koca and Stratton Brown. Another 6-4 victory by the duo of Mac Mease and Daniel Lopez-Rey at the two spot clinched the doubles point for the Bluejays before Armando Gandini and Brooks Kendall added a 7-5 win of their own to close out doubles play.
Creighton managed to win in straight-sets at all six singles positions, with Brown getting things rolling with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep at No. 2. Lopez-Rey (No. 5) and Koca (No. 4) followed suit with 6-0, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-1 wins, respectively, to seal the victory for Creighton. At No. 6, Diaz recorded a 6-1, 6-0 result while Gandini's 6-1, 6-2 result at No. 3 left it up to Kendall at the No. 1 spot to finish the sweep. Kendall responded with a 6-3, 6-1 complete the shutout.
The Bluejays will face Sacred Heart on Tuesday, March 6 for its second match of the trip.
