Men's Tennis Remains Unbeaten in Florida, Defeats Niagara 6-1

Creighton's win against Niagara increases winning streak to three games
ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Creighton men's tennis team's 6-1 victory over Niagara University on Wednesday afternoon increased its win streak to three as the Bluejays remained undefeated in their Florida trip.
With the result, Creighton moved to 5-8 on the season as the team closes out the trip to the Sunshine State with a match against Hampton on Thursday. The Bluejays have outscored the opposition a combined 20-1 in their first three matches in Orlando.
Creighton secured the doubles point after recording a 2-1 decision. The duo Armando Gandini and Brooks Kendall shut out their opponents 6-0 in the No. 3 slot to establish an early advantage for the Bluejays. The Bluejays closed out doubles with a shutout at the No. 2 position as well, behind the efforts of Mac Mease and Daniel Lopez-Rey to give Creighton a lead going into singles play.
Lopez-Rey initiated a streak of five straight singles wins for Creighton with a 6-0, 6-1 straight-sets victory at the No. 5 spot. Jose Oscar Diaz (No. 6) and Stratton Brown (No. 2) followed suit, recording 6-0, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-1 decisions, respectively, to push Creighton's lead to 4-0 overall and clinch the team victory for the Bluejays. Kendall (No. 1) and Gandini (No. 3) soon finished off their results with 6-2, 6-3 and 6-2, 6-2 results, respectively. Alex Koca fell just short at the No. 4 spot after splitting 6-4 decisions in the first two sets and losing 10-4 in a tiebreaker.
"This was another solid win for the guys," said head coach Tom Lilly. "We did what we needed to do today and are going to rest up for one more match tomorrow."
