Men's Tennis Records Victory Against BIG EAST Foe Xavier, 5-2

Bluejays record their first win against a conference opponent in comfortable fashion
MILWAUKEE, Wis. -- The Creighton men's tennis team knocked off conference foe Xavier by a 5-2 scoreline on Saturday afternoon during the Bluejays' second match in two days in Wisconsin.
Creighton moved to 8-9 on the season, including a 1-2 record against members of the BIG EAST. The win also marked the sixth in their last seven matches.
Stratton Brown and Alex Koca gave Creighton an early advantage in the contest, as the two combined for a 6-3 victory in the No. 1 spot of doubles play. A 6-2 victory at No. 3 by Armando Gandini and Brooks Kendall clinched the point for the Bluejays, entering singles play with a 1-0 lead.
Kendall remained hot in singles action, taking straight sets at 6-3, 6-4 in the top spot. Daniel Lopez-Rey followed suit with a 6-4, 7-5 win at the No. 5 spot before Brown clinched the contest for the Jays, overcoming a first set loss (6-0) to win the next two 6-1, 6-3 to send the Bluejays back home with a win on their road trip. A Jose Oscar Diaz win at the No. 6 spot (6-1, 7-5) rounded out the scoring for the Bluejays before Xavier took two consolation matches with three-set victories at No. 4 and 3.
"This was a good win for our guys," head coach Tom Lilly said. "We really showed up to compete at every position, and if we do that moving forward we are going to be tough to beat the rest of the season."
The Bluejays are back in action on Friday at home against Saint Louis. Doubles play is slated to start at 1 pm.
