Tremblay Leads Women's Golf At Islander Classic

Creighton finishes ninth
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas -- Freshman Gabby Tremblay tied for 12th place to lead the Creighton Women's Golf team to a ninth place showing on Tuesday at the Islander Classic. It was Tremblay's third consecutive top-15 finish.
Tremblay shot rounds of 78 and 75 on Monday before closing with CU's best score of the tournament, a 73. She birdied two of her first four holes on Tuesday en route to her lowest score as a collegian.
Junior Margaret Hickey was CU's second-best finisher, tying for 28th after rounds of 78, 79 and 77 for a 234 aggregate.
Amelia Lee fired a 77 to lead all Bluejays in the opening round before closing with loops of 76 and 83. The junior's 236 total tied her for 36th place.
Sophomore Katie Allen opened with scores of 81 and 83 before closing with an 80 for a combined 244 that had her in 53rd place.
Rounding out CU's team score was freshman Claire Orcutt, who finalized circuits of 83, 93 and 90 tied for 79th place with a 266 total.
Competing as an individual and finishing 78th with a 261 total was sophomore Katie Wilson (84-89-88).
Sam Houston State won the 14-team tournament by one shot over Houston Baptist with a 893 total. Incarnate Word's Lauren Mancha had rounds of 74, 69 and 75 to top the field of 87 entrants.
The meet was held at the par 72 Corpus Christi Country Club, which measured 6,032 yards.
Creighton returns to the course on March 9-10 at the Jackrabbit Invitational in Boulder City, Nev.
