Men's Soccer Hosts Crowd of 6,577 For Socctoberfest, Falls 2-1 Against #1 Georgetown

Saturday's crowd was the largest crowd to watch a NCAA soccer match this season and second-largest home crowd in program history
OMAHA, Neb. -- The Creighton men's soccer team allowed a goal during the final minute of regulation as No. 1 Georgetown spoiled the Bluejays' Socctoberfest with a 2-1 victory on Saturday night at Morrison Stadium. The match was also the BIG EAST opener for both teams.
Creighton hosted 6,577 fans for the ninth edition of Socctoberfest on Saturday night -- the largest crowd for a men's soccer match nationally this season and the second-largest home attendance in program history (CU record is 6,848 vs. Old Dominion, Sept. 14, 2012) .
The Bluejays moved their season record to 1-3-1 overall and 0-1-0 in BIG EAST play, while the Hoyas improved to 7-0-0 and 1-0-0 during league action.Â
Marlon Tabora scored the game-winning goal during the 90th minute with a goal off a rebound after Paul Kruse saved John Frank's initial attempt.
Diego Gutierrez converted Creighton's lone tally of the night with a penalty kick during the 78th minute. Manu Toledano drew a foul inside the left side of the 18-yard box to set up the Bluejays' second penalty kick attempt this season. Gutierrez calmly sent the ball into the back of the net for his second goal of the season and tied the match at 1-1.
Georgetown scored its first goal of the match during the 49th minute as Stefan Stojanovic intercepted a pass from the Creighton defense before finding the back of the net.Â
The Hoyas ended the match with a 12-10 edge in shots.Â
Kruse made five saves during the loss, while Georgetown's Giannis Nikopolidis tallied three saves.Â
Saturday marked the first time that the Creighton Men's Soccer program hosted a team ranked No. 1 in the United Soccer Coaches' Poll.Â
Creighton returns to the pitch next week for a road BIG EAST matchup against St. John's on Friday night. Kickoff between the Bluejays and Red Storm is scheduled for 6 p.m. Central in Queens, N.Y.
